Rust genetics calculator FAQ

How does crossbreeding work in Rust?
Plants only crossbreed in a planter, with plants of the same type, once, at the Crossbreed stage. Each of the 6 gene slots is decided by the plants touching the centre plant: G, Y and H count 0.6 and W and X count 1.0, matching genes add up, and the top total replaces the centre gene only when it is higher than that gene’s own weight. Clones keep their parent’s genes exactly.
Which plant genes are good?
G (growth), Y (yield) and H (hardiness) are good genes; W (water) and X (empty) are bad. Pick the plant you want, like GGGYYY, and the calculator works out which clones to place where and the odds of getting it.
Is there an animal breeding calculator for cows and sheep?
Yes, on the same page. Enter a mother and a father, or pick them from your herd, and see what their young can get gene by gene, plus twins, inbreeding and the best pair in your herd. The breeding rules are community tested, so the odds are shown as approximate.
